What to Wear for Your Photoshoot
(Without Overthinking It)
If I’m honest, this is the question I get asked the most.
And I get it — choosing outfits for a photoshoot can feel surprisingly stressful, especially when you want photos you’ll still love years from now.
So if you remember just one thing, let it be this:
keep it simple, keep it neutral, and keep it you.
Neutral colours photograph beautifully because they don’t shout for attention.
They let the real magic shine through — the connection, the emotion, the people you love.
Why I Always Recommend Neutral Colours
Neutral tones are timeless. Fashion trends change, but soft, natural colours never really go out of style.
They keep your photos looking calm, elegant, and classic.
Some of my favourites are:
White
Soft blue
Beige
Cream
Light taupe
Soft grey
These colours work so well together, reflect light beautifully, and create a gentle, cohesive look without overpowering the photo.
Let’s Talk About “Matchy-Matchy”
When everyone wears the exact same thing, photos can start to feel a bit forced.
Instead of matching perfectly, I always suggest coordinating.
Think:
Similar colour tones
Slight variations in shades
Why I Skip the Jeans & White Top Combo
I know it feels like a safe option, but the classic white top and blue jeans combo is very common and can feel a bit harsh in photos.
Rather than defaulting to jeans, try:
Linen trousers
Soft cotton pants
Flowy skirts or dresses
Neutral chinos for men
These options instantly soften the look and photograph beautifully, especially in outdoor or lifestyle sessions.
Create a Simple Colour Palette
Choose 2–3 neutral colours and build everyone’s outfits around that. For example:
White, soft blue & beige
Cream, taupe & light grey
Beige, white & muted denim tones
This keeps everything balanced and effortless — styled, but never stiff.
The Most Important Rule of All:
Wear something you feel comfortable and confident in.
When you feel good, it shows in the photos — relaxed shoulders, natural smiles, real connection. That’s what makes an image special.
Your outfit should support the moment, not steal it.
Timeless. Neutral. Real.
